Contemporary human portraiture is one of the cornerstones of my professional work. Please inquire about commissions and price.
(Excerpt from my statement at Realism 2004 a juried show at the Artisan Gallery in Mill Valley of which I won three prizes.)
March 2, 2004
“After a 6 year exploration of the quiet world of still life and the mundane (of which I’m still bemused) I have returned home to figurative work and portraiture, my first love.
Pundits have, over the last few decades, said that painting and the figure are dead, but, you wouldn’t have known that being in the UK in which I spent last summer. The annual BP portrait awards held at the National Portrait Gallery were astounding. I returned home inspired and renewed. Personally, my favorite contemporary painters have always been predominately English, Scottish and figurative. The familiar old guard, Spencer, Bacon and Freud along with the popsters Blake, Hockney and Kitaj all started the ball rolling for me. Their progeny, Jenny Saville, Stephen Conroy and Jock McFadyen to name a few, have continued in this family business that keeps me interested and seems to be uniquely anglophile."...
