“ James,
Your paintings are amazing; you are a very talented artist……
I am so glad that I had you paint 'Guinness' our very special, cherished baby. About 2 weeks ago we took him to the vet to find out where his appetite and energy went, and discovered over the coming days that he had a very aggressive form of cancer that we could do nothing about. We were shocked, as he was not yet 4 years old, and absolutely heartbroken on Friday to have to put him to sleep, truly the saddest thing that has ever happened to me and I miss him terribly.
I have a beautiful painting to remember him by, one to remind us of happier times! Thanks for doing it and don't ever stop! It is truly unique.”
"James painted a beautiful portrait of my cat Zan. It is a perfect likeness of her. A week later she became ill and went to Heaven. It's a comfort to come home and still have her there. I'm so proud I chose to have her portrait painted.’’

"... I love the way you captured the essence and personality of my cat Tango!”

"Dear James,
I want to thank you for the amazing job you did on the painting of Butch and Alice. You really captured their personalities. It gives me great joy every time I look at it. Thank you again for your amazing and wonderful talent."

"James did a wonderful job capturing the personalities of our two Jack Russell dogs. He cleverly collaged together information from three different photographs to develop the composition.
Now, when my husband is in his office, he not only has a reminder of his lovable dogs, (who are anxiously waiting for him at home), but he's got something that can be appreciated for it's artist's skill and has value as an original piece of art."
" James created an incredible likeness of my mother's 19 year-old-cat, Abby, for Mother's Day last year. My mom was thrilled with the result, which is hanging in a prominent place in her living room. Working with James was great. He patiently reviewed all of the photos I supplied and ended up using Abbey's classic pose, then surrounded her with a jungle environment. My mom says James somehow captured Abbey's essence even though he never met her."
"...I commissioned James Colbert to paint a portrait of Clancy as a gift for my dear friend Sean. Clancy belonged to both myself and Sean. James captured the depth of emotion in Clancy's eyes and every detail of his multi-colored coat. Everyone who knows Clancy and has seen the portrait are both stunned and amazed by James Colbert's work. I lost both Sean and Clancy shortly after the completion of the portrait, I have never been happier with the decision to have Clancy's portrait done for Sean. Clancy was hung in Sean's hospital room to watch over Sean in his last days.
I now have Clancy to watch over me every morning I leave my house.
....after I lost Clancy I needed a new friend for myself and my roommate's dog. I found little Oliver. I could not resist having James Colbert do another portrait of my new puppy. Oliver has grown so fast, 90 pounds in 9 months. The little puppy I see in my portrait is a memory I can look at every day in my office at work. I can't wait to have a portrait done of Oliver when he is full grown, which hopefully should be any time now!!"

“Not a single detail was sacrificed with James’ portrayal of my dog Red. It was a photograph brought to life in paint and color, capturing the very essence of Red and immortalizing him in an ever lasting memento”

“Dear James,
I wanted to thank you for the wonderful painting of Ragamuffin and for your patience with him in his old age. When I first saw the picture it quite took my breath away, it was so perfect. Now we have a beautiful picture to remind us forever."
Kind regards, Tom Armstrong, San Francisco, CA
" Dear James,
Thank you for capturing so well the essence of Lucia. This painting is a wonderful work of art, as anyone can see, not one of those typical “pet portraits”. I will cherish it all my life, and I see it every day in my San Francisco home. Not only is she splendidly portrayed but too is the fantastic background of pillows and tapestry-just as she posed in your studio. Thank you once again and if you should ever wish me to lend the painting to a show, do call."
